Portrait Session Tips

WHAT TO WEAR

Group portraits look the best when everyone is wearing the same color or color family with the same style casual or formal.  Group your clothing and hang them on hangers.  If you need to put your hair up or apply makeup, please do so before arrival.

MAKEUP

Makeup should be a little heavier than usual.  Makeup with SPF can create a shine on your skin. Translucent powder can help with the shine.

KEEP IT FUN

Expressions are the heart of the family portrait.  Plan the day before what everyone is going to wear. If your family wants to bring items that are special to them such as skis, skateboards, instruments, favorite hats, a teddy bear, or abook, please do so.

DON’T BE LATE

Arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to choose your package and pay for your session before we get started.  Full payment is due before beginning.

KNOW YOUR BABY

Newborns tend to be more “camera friendly” in the morning.  The best time to schedule a newborn session is within the first 2-3 weeks.

DRESSING NEWBORNS

Your baby is the center of attention for his or her portrait, bulky clothing or bold patterns can take away from the focus of the picture.   Newborns can’t sit up and their clothes tend to bunch, a diaper cover can work great. You can accessorize with headbands, hats, ribbons, bows, flowers, etc.  We have props to choose from.

BRING SNACKS

Don’t forget the bottle and the munchies.  Bottle babies…don’t forget your water to go with formula.  For small children, it is okay to bring snacks such as cheerios, goldfish, and animal crackers, which aren’t too messy or sticky.

PETS

We are definitely a pet-friendly studio.  Make sure I know this during your booking and there may be an extra fee for working with pets.  Please give them a chance to “use the bathroom” before you bring them in.  If you’re unsure how they will act around strangers, please keep them on a leash or leave them home.
